Spitfire Lovin and Rescue

So it came to our attention from various aviation contacts that an old passionate pilot had taken off on his final journey and left some earthly wings behind in the form of a 3/4 Supermarine Spitfire Replica Aircraft. Now the issue was that the Spitty (as she shall be known) was in Gayndah QLD and because the widow left behind wanted to ensure that it was loved as much as her husband had loved it then it was a sold for a fantastic price on that one condition. Our answer was we will see that deal and LOVE it 10 times more than her husband (it helps when there is more than 1 of us at the Hub who just happen to Love a good Warbird).

Anyway I digress, The mission was accepted and so with a big ol trailer and a trusty truck we headed north for Operation Spitfire Lovin and Rescue. It was at the end of June 2025 that this Operation was performed and a great drive and some great weather saw us arrive to the Beautiful Bird parked in a hangar on the edge of the Gayndah Airfield.

A couple of busy days learning how the wings came off and loading up the bird with some awesome hospitality in between from the caretaker of the Aircraft we packed up our swags and hit the road South for a gentle run home to the Hub. Once again great weather and a safe drive saw us home with plenty of time to unload and roll Spitty onto her comfortable home on the grass at the Hub. She now has a 'Rag Hangar' that Phil has made a top effort with and is protected from weather and sun etc.

This is not the end of the story of Spitty however because she may have some more adventures so stay tuned. Oh and did I mention that she is completely flyable and will only take a minor amount of maintenance to get into flying condition again. She sounds amazing and while not a Merlin engine it is still awesome to see her spinning the prop.  Enjoy the pics !!
